When Braces Are Right for Your Smile
Braces have been straightening smiles for decades — and for good reason. They’re durable, handle even complex cases, and deliver predictable results.
Best For:
- Kids & teens (growing jaws need guidance)
- Complex crowding or bite issues
- Patients who want proven, time-tested technology
- Anyone who benefits from fixed (non-removable) treatment
How Braces Work:
Braces apply gentle, consistent pressure over time to move teeth into alignment. Dr. Le customizes the force and timeline for your specific case — every smile is different.
Choose the Style That Fits Your Life
Braces Type 1: Traditional Metal Braces
What They Are:
Stainless steel brackets bonded to your teeth with an archwire threaded through. This is what most people picture when they think “braces.”
Best For:
- Kids & teens who want durability & cost-effectiveness
- Complex cases that need maximum control
- Patients who want the fastest treatment time
Advantages:
✅ Most durable option
✅ Handles complex cases with precision
✅ Usually the most affordable
✅ Fastest treatment timeline
✅ Fun color options (for kids/teens)
Disadvantages:
- Visible
- Requires careful brushing/flossing
- Occasional adjustments needed
- Some dietary restrictions
Timeline:
18–24 months (varies by case)
Braces Type 2: Clear Braces (Ceramic)
What They Are:
Same technology as metal braces, but with tooth-colored ceramic brackets that blend with your teeth.
Best For:
- Teens & adults who want a more discreet look
- Professional/image-conscious patients
- Anyone who wants metal durability with less visibility
Advantages:
✅ Nearly invisible
✅ Metal durability & effectiveness
✅ Great for complex cases
✅ Faster than Invisalign for some cases
Disadvantages:
- Slightly more expensive than metal
- Can stain if not kept clean
- A bit less durable than metal
Timeline:
18–24 months (varies by case)
What to Expect — Step by Step
Step 1: Free Consultation
Meet Dr. Le, get X-rays, and receive a complete diagnosis & personalized treatment plan. Zero commitment.
Step 2: Getting Your Braces On
We bond the brackets to your teeth and place the archwire. Takes about 1–2 hours. No pain, just slight pressure.
Step 3: Monthly Adjustments
You’ll come back every 4–6 weeks so Dr. Le can adjust your braces and fine-tune your treatment. These appointments are quick (usually 20–30 minutes).
Step 4: Consistent Care
You’ll brush, floss, and avoid hard/sticky foods. We’ll give you all the tips and tools you need to keep your teeth healthy throughout treatment.
Step 5: Removing Your Braces
When your teeth are perfectly aligned, we remove the braces. Takes about 30 minutes. You get to see your new smile!
Step 6: Retainers
We’ll give you custom retainers to keep your smile stable. This is important — teeth can shift if you don’t wear them.

Common Questions About Braces
Q: Will braces hurt?
A: No. You’ll feel some pressure after adjustments, but it’s not painful. Most patients adapt in a few days.
Q: How long do I have to wear braces?
A: Typically 18–24 months, depending on your case. Some cases are faster; others take longer.
Q: Can I play sports with braces?
A: Yes! Wear a mouthguard to protect your teeth & braces. Tell us your sport during your consultation.
Q: What foods can’t I eat?
A: Avoid hard, sticky, and crunchy foods (popcorn, candy, ice, hard nuts). Your teeth are stronger than the brackets.
Q: Do I still need a retainer after braces come off?
A: Yes. Teeth naturally want to shift back. Retainers keep your smile stable for life.
Q: How often do I come in?
A: Every 4–6 weeks for adjustments. Appointments take 20–30 minutes.
